From our research, Samsung hard disk official provides the following information for customer to diagnose the Samsung hard disk by the consumers themselves. This information can be very useful before you return the disks to Samsung or before you deliver the disks to a data recovery lab which provide Samsaung data recovery services.
HDD Controller Failure appears or the hard disk drive is not detected.
* Check the alignment of the power and interface cable.
* Check to see if the Master/Slave jumper pin is installed correctly
Messages such as No ROM Basic System halted, Operating System Not Found, Error Loading System Partition Table Error, and Missing Operating System ppears when booting.
* Boot Sector was deformed or deleted due to virus. Hard disk drive must be reformatted.
* In case Operating System Not Found message, check and see if the DOS or Windows95 is correctly installed.
* It may be due to inactive Boot Record. In this case, run FDISK program and set the partitioned area to Active setting.
FDISK is not running.
Doesn’t boot well even after formatting.
Boot Sector Write Error appears.
Keep transmitting the system but it doesn’t boot.
Virus Warning message continues to appear when formatting.
* Is the Boot Sector Virus Protect(Virus Warning for AMI BIOS, AWARD), set to Enable in CMOS set-up? This is read only setting of the Boot Sector to protect the hard disk drive data from virus. Change the setting to Disable and rerun the FDISK and FORMAT program.
* Run the FDISK program and check to see if the hard disk drive status is set to A(Active). If it is not set to A, it doesn’t boot so from the Set Active partition, the second selection of the FDISK, select C:\, Reset, and then reboot the system.
While using the hard disk drive, Stack Over Flow message keeps appearing and the computer gets downed or not detected.
* This is because at the CMOS set-up, the PIO Mode which controls the hard disk drive transmitting speed, does not comply with the hard disk’s own PIO Mode. In this case, it is because the transmitting speed was set at Auto in the CMOS set-up. Check how much the hard disk’s transmitting speed supports the PIO Mode and adjust the CMOS setting ually.
When checking the hard disk drive with NDD, SCANDISK, CHKDSK, Bad Sector continuously appears like a picture. Bad Sector suddenly appears while using the hard disk drive. When copying the data after formatting, not enough disk space or Bad Sector message appears even though there is an adequate space.
* For the computer under level than 486, IDE type hard disk drive is supported. With the IDE type, only 2 hard disk drive may be installed and even the large size hard disk’s usable space is only 528 MB. After the 528 MB, the system recognize it as Bad Sector. To correct this disadvantage, E-IDE (Expanded-IDE) was developed to support the computer. If your computer does not support the E-IDE, you can fix the problem by using Disk Manager Program.
* During the CMOS set-up, the E-IDE support computer detects the hard disk with the Auto Detect and in case the BIOS is AMI, Award, HDD Mode must be set to LBA.
