OCZ has released the RevoDrive PCI-Express SSD, one of the first PCIe SSDs designed for the consumer market. The RevoDrive comes in 120GB and 240GB capacities and delivers speeds of 540MB/s read, 480MB/s write and random small file writes up to 75,000 IOPS.

The magic behind the speed comes from a proprietary RAID0 design. This allows for not only the fast top-level numbers, but also speeds of up to 400MB/s for sustained writes. The drive is also bootable, which is a first for consumer grade PCIe SSDs.

Other highlights include a three year warranty, 2 million hour MTBF and power consumption of 3W Idle and 8W active.

Availability: The OCZ RevoDrive comes in 120GB and 240GB capacities, with prices of $389.99 and $699.99 respectively.

SSD Reviews:

-PC Perspective Added on: 2010-06-26

“The RevoDrive is an absolute breath of fresh air to the PCIe SSD field. It is less demanding on system resources and remains an outstanding performer for its price point. Cost/GB is matched to that of conventional SandForce driven SATA SSDs, making this unit extremely competitive on price. If you’re considering a pair SandForce SSD’s for use in RAID and have a free PCIe 4x slot available, the RevoDrive is the best way to go. The RevoDrive is worthy of my Editor’s Choice Award. Not only is it a well executed solution at a great price, but the design has great potential through the addition of a second pair of SandForce controllers.”

-Review from Anandtech Added on: 2010-06-25

“The genius isn’t in the product, but in how OCZ made it affordable. Compared to a single Vertex 2, the RevoDrive is nearly twice the performance. The Revo actually outperforms our two Vertex 2s in RAID-0 thanks to the controller on the card. Do you get a standard SATA SSD or pay a little more for a much faster PCIe SSD? I suspect that many will choose the latter, especially because unlike the Z-Drive the RevoDrive is stupidly fast in desktop workloads. For a little more than the cost a single SandForce drive you get much better performance; as much as double depending on the situation. OCZ showed us that it’s possible to drive the cost down. It’s really the cost that makes the RevoDrive so appetizing.”
